The Franklin County Genealogical Society was founded in 1997 as a part of the Franklin County Historical Association. Within three years, the Society became large enough to separate from the Historical Association. Thanks to dedicated volunteers, the Society was able to obtain and refurbish the Parchman-Meredith building on the town square in Mount Vernon, the county seat of Franklin County, Texas. The Society's location at 110 East Main Street serves as the research library and meeting room for the Society, and is open six days a week. We have been told that the research material now in the Society's library is among the best in Northeast Texas. Anyone wishing to do family research is welcome to use the facility. Membership dues are only $15.00 per year.
